A few details to iron out, but it's pretty much done. Here's an extract from our planning document, and how things look to me. It's going to be an amazing trip....
Starting at the Brenner Pass on the border with Austria on September 5th we aim to reach the southern tip of Sicily near Portopalo di Capo Passero by September 23rd. Gybe Gilbert, Jeroen Markies, Peter Cross and Mark Sewell make up the team. So that's 2,000km (1,250 miles) and 14,000m (45,000 ft) to climb in 17 days, cycling 112km (70 miles/day). Should be fun!

Planning
We've been busy on the detailed planning for the route and everything is ready for the Garmins and all hotels are booked up to Day 15 now. So nearly all done.
Sitting for hours with a road atlas, a rough guide, bikeroutetoaster and various on-line resources has got me super excited!! This really will be the trip of a lifetime. Just need to step up the training now!!
Does anyone speak Italian who can help me with some phone calls? Thanks.

Long Leg Sportive - First Training Ride - Surrey Hills
With four months to go we launched our training schedule with a road ride in the Surrey Hills. When we signed up for the "Long Leg" we didn't know it would max at 5 degrees on a May day, and be grey and raining. Pretty miserable conditions - cold fingers and toes. We hope Italy in September is a little better! Anyway, it was a very good ride and a Rutters team of Mark, Peter, Jason and Caco enjoyed the day..... That was until we broke down on the M23 heading home.
Here's the route: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/175385783
